Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team

Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team is the resort-based competition program that emerged after the former Crested Butte Academy closed in 2008. Its roots reach back to the Crested Butte Ski Club, incorporated in 1978; freeride and snowboard programming joined the local pathway in the 1990s. Today the team provides coached alpine, freeride, and snowboard development and competition from Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

The surrounding support structure is unusually layered. CBMST Boosters organizes schedules and family support for the active team, while the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation—no longer a direct program operator—raises funds and awards need- and merit-based assistance across local snow-sport disciplines. That distinction matters: the resort runs the team, and community nonprofits help athletes afford and navigate it.
