01 / CLUB PROFILE

About Durango Nordic Ski Club

Durango Nordic Ski Club serves a wider audience than its race-team name might suggest. Youth programs cover ages 5–19, beginning with Snowburners games and fundamentals for beginner and intermediate skiers before moving toward race-focused training. Competitive athletes enter Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifiers and can earn points toward Junior Nationals, while local events such as the Mike Elliott Youth Festival keep racing connected to Durango's own ski history.

Adults can join technique and fitness groups ranging from first-timers to marathon racers, and the center offers daily classic or skate lessons. Rental equipment helps reduce the cost of getting started. A developing biathlon program, supported by donated equipment and grant funding, now gives youth athletes another discipline to explore alongside conventional Nordic training.
