About Grand Mesa Nordic Council
Grand Mesa Nordic Council maintains three public ski systems—Skyway, County Line, and Ward—high above Colorado's Western Slope. Together they provide about 50 kilometers of groomed or marked terrain. Skyway and County Line share 30 kilometers of classic and skate trails, while Ward adds classic grooming and a signed touring network. At roughly 10,000 feet, Grand Mesa often receives more than 300 inches of snow and can offer an unusually long season.
The council has operated since 1990 under a U.S. Forest Service permit, relying on voluntary contributions and grants rather than a mandatory day ticket. It also maintains a warming hut, publishes grooming reports, teaches classic and skate clinics, and stages a multi-race winter series. Volunteers and donors are not peripheral; they are the operating model.
