Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club began in 1914 as the committee behind the town's Winter Carnival and has grown into one of North America's oldest comprehensive winter-sport organizations. More than 1,200 athletes participate in alpine, cross-country, ski jumping, Nordic combined, moguls, freeskiing, snowboarding, backcountry, and skimo programs, with Howelsen Hill anchoring much of the club's identity.

Young children can sample several disciplines through schedules designed to avoid early specialization; older athletes choose recreational, development, or competitive tracks. That breadth has produced an unmatched local lineage of Olympians while still preserving community programs, adult groups, cycling, and skateboarding. SSWSC measures itself through both athletic progression and life skills, and Steamboat's annual carnival, jumping hills, and volunteer culture remain inseparable from the program.
