About Adaptive Action Sports

Adaptive Action Sports grew out of a specific gap: in 2005, Amy Purdy and Daniel Gale saw few action-sport opportunities designed for people with physical disabilities. The organization helped build adaptive snowboarding’s community and was involved in the sport’s path into the Paralympic Games. Its headquarters and winter Mountain Center are at Copper Mountain.

Winter programming spans beginner recreation through high-performance snowboard training. Riders can work toward competition, enter a development pipeline, or join events such as Snow + Flow, which combines skill-level snowboard sessions with adaptive yoga and community time. The nonprofit primarily serves youth, young adults, and wounded veterans with permanent physical disabilities, making it more snowboard- and progression-focused than Colorado’s general adaptive ski schools.
