Adaptive Sports Association

Adaptive Sports Association has been part of winter at Purgatory since 1983. Its instructors work one-to-one with people who have physical or cognitive disabilities, choosing and adapting techniques around each participant rather than assigning everyone the same lesson format. Alpine skiing, snowboarding, and several forms of sit-skiing are available from resort opening through closing.

Full- and half-day lesson packages include private instruction, necessary equipment, and the participant’s lift ticket. Scholarships help reduce financial barriers, and military veterans with a disability rating can access winter programming without a lesson charge. ASA’s long-running Dave Spencer Classic also brings the community together around a playful consistency race and fundraiser, reflecting the family atmosphere that remains central to the Durango program.
