Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports

Steamboat Adaptive Recreational Sports—STARS—builds private lessons around each participant’s strengths rather than a single disability category. Qualified instructors work with skiers and riders age five and older, from first-time snow sliders through advanced athletes. Downhill options include two-, three-, and four-track skiing, bi-skis, mono-skis, snowboards, ski bikes, ski trikes, and guiding for people who are blind, Deaf, or have hearing loss.

The participant’s adaptive equipment and lift ticket are included in private lessons. STARS also offers one-to-one adaptive Nordic instruction for those who prefer Steamboat’s quieter trail network. Its winter base is at the resort, while the organization’s ranch provides accessible lodging and a gathering place for groups, retreats, and year-round recreation. Scholarships are based on financial need.
